Why Akruti text breaks outside your computer
Akruti fonts were built before Odia had a common computer standard. They store each Odia letter as an ordinary English keyboard code and rely on the font to draw the Odia shape. On a computer with the font installed, the page looks right. Anywhere else, the codes show through: ଦୋକାନ ଘର ଭଡା ଚୁକ୍ତି ନାମା turns into ù\ûKû^ Ne bWû Pêqò ^ûcû the moment it is pasted into WhatsApp, an email, a website or a government portal.
Unicode gives every Odia letter its own code that every phone, browser and office program understands. Converting an Akruti document once means it can be shared, searched, copied into online forms and opened on any device without asking the reader to install a font.
How to convert an Akruti Word file

Save the file as .docxFiles from older versions of Word use .doc. Open the file in Word and use Save As → Word Document (.docx) first.

What the converter takes care of
- Vowel signs typed before the letter. In Akruti the ୋ and େ signs are typed before the consonant because that is where they are drawn. Unicode stores them after it, so ùK becomes କେ and ù\ûK becomes ଦୋକ.
- The reph (ର୍). Akruti places the reph after the letter it sits on; Unicode needs it first. ahð becomes ବର୍ଷ and _~ýð« becomes ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ.
- ୈ and ୌ. The two-part vowel signs are joined correctly, as in ପୈଠ and କୌଣସି.
- Conjuncts and phala. Ready-made conjuncts such as ନ୍ତ, ଷ୍ଟ, ମ୍ବ and ଦ୍ଧ, and ଯ-ଫଳା, ର-ଫଳା, ବ-ଫଳା and ଲ-ଫଳା.
- Full stop and numbers. The Akruti full stop becomes ।, digits become Odia digits as Akruti displays them, or English digits if you prefer, and the ୰ sign before a late person’s name is kept.
- Word formatting. Only text in an Akruti font is changed. English text in other fonts, tables, headers, footers and page layout stay as they were, and font sizes are carried over so the Odia does not shrink.
Before you rely on the result
The converter reproduces what was typed. If a document contains a typing slip that happened to look right in the Akruti font, the Unicode version shows it as it really is, which is sometimes the first time anyone notices it. Read the converted file once, especially names, amounts and dates in agreements and applications.
This version handles the Akruti Ori font family. Documents in Shreelipi, GIST, Apranta or other old Odia fonts are detected and left unchanged, and the result card says which font was found.
