Why people split documents
- Upload size limits. Portals frequently cap attachments at 1 MB or 2 MB. Sending only the relevant pages is usually a bigger saving than any amount of compression.
- Privacy. A statement, report or contract often contains far more than the recipient needs. Extract the page in question and share nothing else.
- Study material. Cut a single chapter or a previous year’s question paper out of a large book PDF for focused revision.
- Batch scans. One scanning session that produced six unrelated documents becomes six separate files, each named properly.
- Printing. Print pages 12 to 20 without loading a 400-page file into the print dialog and hoping the range takes.

Splitting a document usually means handling exactly the material you would least like to see on someone else’s server: statements, medical records, identity proofs, confidential agreements. Things worth knowing
Page numbering here follows the PDF, not the printed numbers on the page. A book whose body text starts at printed page 1 after a dozen roman-numeral pages will have that page sitting at PDF page 13. The thumbnails are the reliable guide.
Extracted pages keep their original quality, which also means they keep their original weight. A page carrying a full-bleed 300 DPI scan stays heavy after extraction — if size is the goal and the file is still too big, follow up with the compressor. Encrypted PDFs need their password removed before the pages can be read.
