SamePrice is a Chrome extension that shows whether a shop is showing you a different price than a new visitor would see, and points out extra fees on checkout pages.

What data SamePrice collects

None. SamePrice does not collect, sell or share any personal information, browsing history or page content. It has no server.

How it works

SamePrice reads the price on the page you are looking at, then loads the same page again in the background without your cookies or login, the way a new visitor would see it, and compares the two prices. It also works out your final price: it adds fees shown next to the price and the delivery charge the shop shows for your delivery address, lists extra fees on checkout pages, and remembers the fees each shop added at checkout so it can include them next time. On popular shops built into SamePrice (such as Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra) and on other shops you have allowed, this happens automatically when you open a page there. On any other shop it happens only when you click the SamePrice button. You can turn automatic checks off in the Shops tab. All of this happens inside your own browser.

If you click “Save evidence for a complaint”, SamePrice takes a screenshot of the shop page you are on and opens a report in a new tab on your computer. The screenshot and report are not sent anywhere; you decide whether to download, print or share them.

What is stored

SamePrice keeps, in Chrome’s local storage on your own computer: a list of the products you opened on shops (product name, shop, page address, the first and latest price you were shown, the final price with delivery and fees, the delivery town and PIN code the shop showed, the return policy shown, any “only N left” or “deal ends in” messages shown, and dates), so it can show your price history and tell you if a price goes up when you come back; the fees each shop added at checkout; your alerts; and your two settings. This is never sent anywhere. You can remove single products, clear your history or clear alerts at any time, and removing the extension deletes everything.

Permissions

  • activeTab and scripting – to read the price on the current page, only when you click.
  • Access to popular shopping websites (granted when you install SamePrice; the list is shown in the Shops tab) – to read the price on product pages you open there and load the same page as a new visitor. SamePrice does not run on any other website unless you allow it.
  • Access to other shops (asked separately for each shop, only when you click “Compare with a new visitor”) – the same, for that shop. You can remove these in the Shops tab.
  • storage – to keep the prices you were shown, your alerts and settings on your computer.

Third parties

SamePrice has no ads, analytics, affiliate links or tracking, and uses no third-party services.
